For the artist behind Hephy Studio, Kerry, the journey began with a lifelong love of drawing. Starting out by creating cards and personalised prints for family and friends, illustration had always been a passion. It wasn’t until one casual TikTok scroll that everything clicked. After stumbling upon a video of a live illustrator working at a wedding, the thought immediately struck- this is my dream job. That moment sparked a transition from personal commissions to full-time live wedding illustration and the rest, as they say, is history. “It’s a true honour to be a small part of a couple’s day,” Kerry and her artist Aimee explain. “To witness the happiness our illustrations bring really is the icing on the cake.”

What makes live illustration so powerful is not just the artwork itself, but the reaction it creates. Watching guests see their drawings for the first time is often the highlight of the day. “My favourite part of any wedding is seeing the person who booked us watch their guests’ reactions,” says Hephy. “The excitement and pure joy on their faces is indescribable. Many guests won’t have seen this before, so it can be a real surprise and to me, there’s nothing more special.”

Behind the artistry lies a strong focus on experience. Hephy Studio prides itself on excellent communication and a smooth process for every couple. From the first conversation to the final sketch, the goal is always to bring creative visions to life. And while couples often book directly, live illustration also makes for a heartfelt surprise gift from family or friends. “We love it when we’re booked as a surprise,” they admit with a smile.

On the day itself, the service is as unique as it is memorable. Live illustration doubles as entertainment and as the perfect wedding favour, something personal that guests can take home and treasure. Using professional markers, paints, pens, and pencils, each illustration is completed on-site, with packages available for weddings of all sizes, covering up to 120 guests. In a technology-driven world it’s a celebration of handcrafting at its most meaningful.

When asked for their advice to brides, Hephy’s philosophy is simple: don’t be afraid to do things differently. “Don’t do the conventional, go for what reflects you,” Kerry encourages. And when the planning process starts to feel overwhelming? Take a break. “If you’re feeling stressed with all the wedmin, go on a date with your partner. The end goal is to marry your soulmate, everything else is just extra.”
