Bride Spotlight: From Dotty Bridal to Dordogne

The dress-shopping journey that led Sophie to her perfect Justin Alexander gown

For Sophie, finding her wedding dress was about much more than finding a beautiful gown. It was about finding something that made her feel completely like herself.

Sophie visited Dotty Bridal as the second boutique on her dress-shopping journey, after being recommended by friends and colleagues. She first visited shortly after Dotty had moved to Wakefield and was immediately struck by how personal the experience felt.

“I was impressed at how personal the experience was despite being a larger bridal shop.”

That first visit was the beginning of a dress journey that Sophie would return to several times - not only to find her dress, but later for her alterations with Adele.

Finding Her Dress

When Sophie first started looking, she already had an idea of what she wanted. Lace sleeves were firmly on her list, but she was determined not to limit herself to one particular style.

She made a point of trying on a variety of different silhouettes and gowns, allowing herself to experience the full dress-shopping journey rather than simply looking for the first dress that matched her original vision.

And it was a decision that paid off.

Sophie chose Justin Alexander Katelyn, a relatively new arrival at Dotty at the time. In fact, Becky told her she was the first Dotty Bride to choose the style.

Even though the sample she tried on was much too big, Sophie knew there was something about it.

“Even in the sample dress I tried on, which was way too big, I still felt amazing – I felt like me, which is how I wanted to feel.”

And that feeling was the one that mattered most.

The Moment She Said Yes

Before starting her dress search, Sophie wasn't sure how she'd feel about wedding dress shopping. She imagined it might be overwhelming, but her experience turned out to be quite the opposite.

“I was just on cloud nine. I wasn’t sure how I’d find dress shopping and thought it may be overwhelming, but I was so wrong.”

In fact, Sophie enjoyed the experience so much that if she hadn't found her dress, she would have happily carried on trying more.

“I loved the entire experience and if I’d not said yes to a dress I’d have loved to try on 100 more!”

For us, that's exactly what we love to hear. Finding your dress should feel exciting, personal and completely yours - not stressful or overwhelming.

A Dress Journey That Didn't End at Yes

For Sophie, her time at Dotty didn't end when she said yes.

She returned to the boutique multiple times to see Adele for her dress alterations, becoming familiar with the team and the excitement of seeing other brides starting their own journeys.

“I always looked forward to returning and seeing other excited brides to be.”

It's those moments that make the journey so special - from the first appointment and trying on styles you never expected, to saying yes and eventually returning to see your finished dress come together.

Her Advice to Brides Starting Their Search

Sophie’s biggest piece of advice for brides beginning their dress search is to keep an open mind.

Even if you have a very clear idea of what you want, she recommends trying different styles too.

“Even if you have something in mind still try on the other styles – it’ll either confirm what you like or you may surprise yourself.”

And most importantly?

“Just enjoy the experience – take it all in.”

We couldn't agree more.

Sophie went into her dress search knowing she wanted lace sleeves, but it was the experience of trying different styles, trusting how she felt and finding a dress that felt completely her that led her to Katelyn.

And when she finally stepped into her Justin Alexander gown, even in a sample that was far too big, she already knew: this felt like me.

From Dotty to the Dordogne

Sophie went on to marry Thompson at the beautiful Château de Cazenac in the Dordogne, France, where they celebrated with their nearest and dearest over three unforgettable days.

And of course, Katelyn came with her - complete with the lace sleeves she'd always envisioned.

Thank you, Sophie, for sharing your dress journey with us. We loved being part of it from those first appointments through to alterations with Adele, and seeing you wearing your dress on such a beautiful day was the perfect ending to your Dotty journey.
