Behind the Lens: Meet Melissa Render of Something Studio

Every wedding tells its own story and capturing those fleeting moments takes a photographer with not only skill but also heart. That’s where Melissa Render, the creative behind Something Studio, comes in.

Known for her relaxed, editorial-style photography, Melissa has a talent for turning genuine emotion into timeless images. Brides love her warm, approachable personality and her ability to make them feel like they’re simply spending the day with a friend rather than posing for a camera. Whether it’s a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, Melissa’s work is all about love, laughter, and those perfectly imperfect moments that make each wedding unique.

When asked ‘Can you tell us how your journey in this business began and what inspired you to start the business?’ Melissa replied,

‘I first started transitioning to wedding photography during maternity leave of my second baby. I studied fine art photography at university but took a break and worked in interior design for several years. When I had my second baby, I craved a career that gave me more freedom than a 9-5, and once I got my camera back out, I realised how much I had missed it and haven’t looked back since.’

Question two was an easy one for her to answer, ‘What’s your favourite part of your job or business? Is there a particular moment that has stood out to you over the years?’

Melissa told us she just loves meeting brides that feel like friends and creating their vision for them. ‘It’s the best day of people’s lives, I’m a hopeless romantic and love to see love!’

Melissa then reflected on ‘How do you help brides through their wedding journey?’ and answered;

‘I try and take a relaxed approach with my brides. Wedding planning can be so overwhelming, and I want my brides to know I’ve got the images and content handled. I’ll check in before the day to chat through our goals, but other than that I’ll leave you to it. Of course, I’m always here for a chat should you want to ask any questions!’

When we got on to the subject of services Melissa offers she explained the different packages she has available. She offers photography and content creation, with packages tailored to your style of wedding, whether that be an intimate registry office or the full shabang! From a couple of hours to a full day of pics, she takes editorial-style candid shots for the modern bride wanting a wedding album that’s Pinterest-worthy. Melissa also does family and maternity shoots for all the other special stages of your life!

Our final question for Melissa was ‘What’s one piece of advice you’d give to brides?’

Her response was ‘I would say, try and enjoy your day in the way a guest does. Try not to get too bogged down with itineraries and “to-do” lists on the day. So many times, I see brides say the day went in a flash because they had been so busy “hosting.” This is why I take the shortest possible amount of time with your posed photos and get straight to it. It’s YOUR day—go enjoy it!’

Whether it’s an intimate ceremony or a full-day celebration, Melissa brings a romantic, relaxed and modern approach to capturing love stories. With her eye for candid editorial-style moments, Something Studio is all about creating timeless imagery that feels as beautiful as the memories themselves.

We adore Melissa's work, make sure to check out her portfolio HERE.
